Theale in Old Photographs includes over 150 photographs, mainly from the 1890s to 1950s with a few into the 1980s. It developed from the Photographic Exhibition that was part of a West Berkshire funded Millennium Project which also included a video/DVD Theale Past and Present – Memories of Local Residents and a Trail leaflet A Walk around Theale. All three were organised by David Wall and Sue Tickle of the Adult Education Department of Theale Green Community School. At the same time a large quilt, which now hangs in Theale Green Community Sschool hall, was made depicting many aspects of Theale and later an illustrated booklet was produced describing the quilt and explaining the background to the scenes depicted.

Village survey highlights local concerns

The results of this year’s village survey have now been released, and offer a fascinating insight into the concerns of Theale’s residents. Andy Button, Vice Chair of Theale’s Future, revealed the headline points during the public meeting at the village hall on October 21st. He calaculated that more than 96,000 pieces of data had to be processed, and thanked the Greenham Common Trust for taking on most of this enormous task. He also thanked everyone who had helped to distribute and collect the survey around the village. But perhaps the most gratitude was expressed towards you, Theale’s residents, for co-operating in responding to the survey. It’s not always easy to persuade people to complete questionnaires, but a whopping 50.1% of the households in Theale returned their completed forms. This is a massive increase over the average for these projects, and suggests that the people of Theale welcomed the chance to express an opinion on a wide variety of issues affecting the village.

It will take some time to chew over the results, and turn these opinions into a plan of action, but in the meantime, please download the results of the questionnaire in Microsoft Word format by clicking here: Results.

A preliminary analysis of the information in MS PowerPoint format can be found here: Analysis.

Also during the meeting, Roger York, another member of the Theale’s Future committee, revealed that the group had succeeded in winning an award of £9,380 from Awards For All. More information can be found on the Theale’s Future area of this webite.
